Route information

Introduced by Acorn Trails in 2019, the South By Five races were well received by locals runners. Based on the iconic Glasgow race, The Southside Six, South By Five visits each of the six parks over a 10 week period. A 5km event is held in each park, with runners able to enter single events or the whole series (the whole series requires early booking so give Acorn Trails a follow across Facebook, Twitter, Strava, Instagram or join their Run Club to keep up to date. Whole series package is closed for 2021).

The six parks are:

All races start at 10.30am

Enter the Rouken Glen Park race via Entry Central.

This installment of the South by Five series has a bit of everything. It is a fully multi-terrain route, with an uphill start and speedy downhill finish. Into the mix is a two lap loop with a traverse of a wet grassy and sometimes muddy meadow, up and down steps and an arching tarmac section, the right shoe choice for this race could be critical!

The race starts from the ‘wee’ hill round the back of the David Lloyd club, which runners of the Rouken Glen 10k will be familiar with. It follows the path to the right as it swings round towards the Boating Pond where the route flattens out then gives you some downhill action as you make your way to some of the Glen Walk trails.

After a few sharp turns, up and down some steps you complete two of these laps and finish by taking a sharp right, a wee mini climb before opening up the stride and flying back down to the start point.
