Start from behind the Braehead Sainsbury’s, going between it and Currys to find the walkway. Run west along a clear and flat path that has fine views of the River Clyde, along Marlinford Quay.
A clear path will take you behind the full extent of Braehead Shopping Centre and Escape. Continue along the path, which has various names -King’ Inch Quay, then runs adjacent to Lapwing Road, and then Final Avenue.
Saturn left at the dock, running round this to maintain the route on the Clyde path. Run round a second dock before joining Ferry Road and turning left. Go along Meadowside Road and up a slight incline. Turn left up Fishers Road and then right on a path and go straight on, running parallel with the Clyde and then turning right at Renfrew Golf Course.
You will hug the Clyde for a wonderful leafy section, first passing the Blythswood Beacon, a small lighthouse and following the Clyde and then bending round to follow the River Cart towards the Normandy Hotel.
After you pass the Normandy Hotel, you may want to stop to look at the historic Argyll Stone. Keep the Argyll Stone on your left and exit onto Inchinan Road, turning right onto Bascule Bridge. In crossing the bridge, you make this “there and back run,” around 7 miles.
And the good news is the views on the way back are as good!
