Route information

Introduced by Acorn Trails in 2019, the South By Five races were well received by locals runners. Based on the iconic Glasgow race, The Southside Six, South By Five visits each of the six parks over a 10 week period. A 5km event is held in each park, with runners able to enter single events or the whole series (the whole series requires early booking so give Acorn Trails a follow across Facebook, Twitter, Strava, Instagram or join their Run Club to keep up to date. Whole series package is closed for 2021).

The six parks are:

All races start at 10.30am

Enter Kings Park race via Entry Central.

The Kings Park race features an updated route for 2021.

The race starts near the Carmunnock Road/Croftpark Avenue entrance and includes two big loops of the park and a wee mini loop to complete the 5k. If you know Kings Park you’ll be aware it can be a bit hilly depending which way you go.

It’s not like Alex and Michelle at Acorn Trails to give you an easy race, however at Kings Park you do start off with a wee downhill as you head towards the Menock Road side. The easy bit doesn’t last long though, then you have a short steep climb before another downhill running to the other side of the park.

Wouldn’t be surprised if you encounter some mud here before you rejoin the marked path.

At around (or just before) 1.5km get ready for another hill and a longer climb as you make your way back to the start point. Repeat this loop once more.

After you’ve completed this loop twice, the final mini loop takes place on the main big tarmac path within the park, taking you past the impressive Aikenhead House and a wee uphill to finish.

Hats off to Acorn Trails, not only do they put on great races, their commitment to the local communities involved and the measures they take to help the environment are brilliant. Give their races a try, you won’t regret it!
