Named so because it starts and ends at Migo Sports on the Southside, looks a bit like a dinosaur (admittedly, you need to use your imagination) and is 26.2 miles (or maybe a wee bit closer to 26.3).
The Festive Foodbank Donation Dash!
Greig at Body and Sole Fitness came up with the idea of doing a charity run in the lead up to Christmas to raise money for Glasgow food banks and got in touch for some help in designing the route. Greig identified seven food banks and we designed a route which captured them all.
Greig will be joined by Michael (Migo Sports), Lisa (Dear Green Coffee Roasters), Ludo (Ludo’s Primal Wellness) and Danny (Two Birds Boutique Fitness) on 20 December as they tackle the Festive Foodbank Donation Dash! All money raised will be spent on food to be donated and they are aiming for £2,000. Help them out by heading over to their JustGiving page.
Starting at Migo Sports, 511 Clarkston Road, runners will pass each food bank that will receive donations:
From Migo Sports head to Pollokshaws Road via Merrylee and Nether Auldhouse Road passing Auldhouse Community Foodbank just after the first mile. Then head to Govan via Dumbreck and reach the Clyde Tunnel at about 6 miles. The entrance next to Holmfauldhead Place brings runners out to Dumbarton Road and takes a short loop at Medwyn Street where Salvation Army Glasgow West is based.
The underpass to Victoria Park is next to Whiteinch Library where runners take the direct route to Danes Drive and run past Scotstoun Stadium and cross Kinsgway and Anniesland Road to reach Glasgow North West Foodbank at Blawarthill Church Hall. Runners then have a mostly traffic free run once they join the National Cycle Network Route 7. To join the cycle path, look out for the set of stairs on the left-hand side of Dyke Road just before you cross the bridge. Follow the cycle path along the River Clyde all the way to Glasgow Green, leaving it at the Doulton Fountain via Morris Path onto Stevenson Street.
Head to Duke Street and take a detour on the left to Whitehill Street for The Everlasting Foodbank and rejoin Duke vie Roslea Drive. Follow Duke Street to Parkhead and Helenvale Street for Glasgow North East Foodbank then continue onto the River Clyde and follow the Clyde Walkway to Polmadie Bridge.
As we reach the final five miles, run to Glasgow South East Foodbank on Inglefield Road via Aikenhead Road then head to Shawlands Cross on Pollokshaws Road to pass Destiny Church Foodbank. To complete the loop, come off Pollokshaws Rd to Shawhill Road, take a left at Ashtree Road to eventually run along Newlands Road to Cathcart then take a right to finish back at Migo Sports.
It’s not a route for a personal best given the run through the Clyde Tunnel, a road or two to cross, the odd underpass and it measures slightly over the 26.2188 miles of a marathon. Nonetheless it makes a decent run round the city.
Good luck to the team running on the 20th. Follow them on Instagram for any updates and if you have a spare quid, chuck it into their donations on JustGiving.
