Route information

The Kilptarick Hills are fairly popular with Glasgow trail runners. This 4 mile loop is ideal for runners wanting to try out hill and trail running and perfect for those who just want a quick blast of trail action without having to take a big chunk out of their day.

If driving, park at the Auchnacraig Car Park on Cochno Road then you can run either clockwise or anti-clockwise. Running clockwise will give you a gentler start whereas anti-clockwise has you heading straight for the incline on the path up to Jaw Reservoir. The photos in the gallery are in order if running clockwise.

The trail provides a mix of stone paths and rough grassy tracks which can get pretty boggy after a spell of rain.

The route offers great views over Glasgow and surrounding areas as well as to the Duncolm summits. You don’t actually reach the summit of Cochno on this route and a wee detour in the direction of Greenside Reservoir would get you there.
